Ruta maya pt.1

Hei/hi/hola!

Ruta maya päivät 1&2

Ruta maya, retkemme aloitettiin 26.4.

We started the trip, ruta maya on 24.6 The first day we spent on a bus collecting exchange students from different cities. We started about 10 o´clock in the morning from Culiacan, we got on a bus and from there we continued to a Mazatlan. Second we headed to Tepic, from Tepic to Guadalajara, where we got at 11 o´clock at night. Straight from there we went on a bus to Mexico city (we slept the night in a bus note. which was horrible). The first thing in the morning when we arrived to the hotel in the morning was that we got some breakfast and after that we went straight to visit the Catedral Basílica Guadalupe. From there we continued to a city of Mayas, Teotihuacan. There we had a change to taste differents kinds of tequilas that were made out of cactuses and of course after that we went and climbed the two biggest pyramids on Teotihuacan, a lot of stairs! After climbing the pyramids we went to have a delicious lunch on a beautiful buffet restaurant. After eating we got to take our stuff to the hotel (at last!) and we had time to rest and to get to know to the people that we were travelling with.

After the breakfast we left the hotel at eight in the morning to walk several hours on the historic down town of Mexico city where there is so much to see. We visited many beautiful churches/catedrals, we saw some ruins that were left from the city of mayas, we visited in a stunning bakery where there is huge artificial cakes and qe visited in a green park. We also saw the street were was filmed a part of a new James Bond movie. We also visited the building in where ate reveived the kings and queen from the different countries when they are visiting. In the walls of this building we saw historical paintings of a historically important time when the Spaniards Arrived to Mexico. After the lunch we visited the castle of Chapultepec, which wasn't always a castle but for example a school. We were also going to visit the museo of antropologia but what a shame we didn't have time to do that.

After eating at the hotel we started our trip to Jalcomulco (green Mexico/México verde). We had to be in the bus for more than six hours, so logically the first thing whem we arrived was to eat and be amazed by the nature around us. We were staying like in a little camping area in a little cottage/tent things (I will put a picture of those). From this area you were also able to find the dining area, the pool area and a shower/toilet area etc. After dining we did the so called "campo de retos" in which we had to survive different kinds of challenges and tricks with teams. There were four teams. We had fun time but always while playing there happens accidents. One girl somehow did kind of break her ankle so bad that they had to take her to a hospital and she was operated within a few days, she wasn't able to continue the trip anymore and after four days she had to go back to her hosting city. She is such an lovely person and a good friend of mine. Few people had smaller injuries like bruises and stuff, including me. At night we gathered around of a bonfire where we got to know each other and for that we had different games. It was really fun and after that we got to go to the pool for a night swim at 11 o 'clock.

The next day in Jalcomulco we got up early in the morning and right after breakfast we went to do an activity called rafting. In rafting there is a little boat where is four and + people with the oars where you move with the stream of the river. Before starting the activity we were told the safety instruciones. In the river we were from three to four hours, in this time we saw many wonderful and beautiful places by the river and we had really much fun with our guide. In our team we were Aurora(Italia), Sophie(Aleman), Roberto(United States), Eva(Belgia), and our instructor/guide Irwin (one of the instructores in the camp in Jalcomulco) and me. I did put a lot sunscreen but either way I got burned because we were in the same position in the boat all those hours. We got to jump to a water from a cliff (from about five meters). We also took a little break and we ate fruits with chili (ofcourse like mexicans do). When we ended our little river trip after a race to the end, we continued with more activities. Next we went to do ziplines and wall climbing. We shared the group in two to be able to do the activities. Our team did start from the wall climbing. I was so scared. I really thought that I was going to drop from there and die or something (maybe I was being a little bit over dramatic). But we survived from the first activity and then we continued to the zip lines and I can say that it was probably until now one of the most greatest experiences of my life. The feeling was amazing when you were basically flying over the little canyon while jsut being atatched with a few cables. Simply incredible. I got out from the zip lines with my feet shaking but with a huge smile on my face. At night in the camping site we had a DJ and we were singing and dancing. We also had a suprise for the girl from Venezuela, because of her accident. We had little speeches for her and we gave a letter singed by the whole group of the exchange students.

The breakfast and dinner we still ate in the Jalcomulco at the next day. Some went to spend time on the pool and we backed our stuff to move on to a new place. After backing and eating we headed to Oaxaca. At night we arrived to the hotel.

Kylän nimi on Teotitlán del Valle.

After waking up in Oaxaca we ate breakfast and we continued in a bus to the village of Santa María Tule. There we went to see a tree that is over 2000 years old. The tree is huge and if you want to round the tree by people holding hands you need much more than a few persons. After that we went to see how clothes are made by hand. The name of the village is Teotitlán del Valle. After eating in the village we got back to our hotel. At the evening we had time to get to know the downtown of Oaxaca and we had the change to see what did the city have to offer. We also went to eat to a beautiful restaurant in a small group. In Oaxaca I also saw maybe one of the most beautiful church that I have ever seen!

Oaxacassa on n.300 erilaista arkeologista aluetta, niistä n.27 on avoinna yleisölle. Mentiin vierailemaan arkeologiselle alueelle nimeltä Monte Alba.

Aamulla saavuttiin Chiapakseen aamupalalle Sumideron kanjoniin.

In the morning we arrived to Chiapas to have breakfast in the Canyon of Sumidero. From the same place we continued after a while with boats on the stream of the river to get to know the canyon. Swimming in the river is forbidden because of the alligators, we saw one too. With the boat we were also able to go a one cave in which they have a statue of Virgin Guadalupe. Every year 12th of Dicember Mariachis go to play music to the statue on boats to honour the day of The Virgin. After the visit in the canyon we went to a village called Chiapa de Torzo. After this we arrived to a hotel, ate and we went to see the local market.

Illalla mentiin taas katselemaan paikallisen torin tuotteita.

After waking up from the cold and after eating we went to visit the local tribes and their villages with a special guide who was part of the population too. First we went to visit the house of Juana Pérez in which they make tradicional mexican clothing from their village and they are hand made, they also make different kinds of decorations by hand. We also got to be part of the making tortillas. In San Juan Chamula we also visited two beautiful churches, and inside both of them were decorated with fresh flowers everywhere. Also while visiting the village we helped the local children by buying them food and school suplies. This day was actually cold, windy and rainy. In the evening we spent the rest of the day at the local market.

We packed our stuff and ate breakfast early and after that we were ready with ouur swimsuits for another bus trip. We arrived to a waterfalls called "cascadas de agua azul". It is such an beautiful place! The water was a bit cool but it didn't bother us because of the hot weather. We jumped to a water from the rocks and cliffs, we took a lot of fotos and ofcourse we enjoyed the beauty of that place. There was also lots of little restaurants and little shops. We ate and continued the trip in a bus. All the time the view was amazing because we were driving on the roads on the mountains. In the evening we arrived a Palenque, Chiapas. We spent only one night in this hotel. The evening we had free time. So we had time to swim in the pool and walk on the city.

Palenque on kaunis pieni paikka mutta lähdimme aikasin aamulla hotellilta kohti Palenquen arkeologista aluetta. Todella kaunis alue, paljon nähtävää. Näimme mm. hautoja, vanhoja asumuksia ja pyramideja. Sen jälkeen jatkoimme matkaa Campechen Campecheen. Matkalla "comida box lunch" ruoan säästääksemme aikaa.
